Dr. Mark Kline, president of the Baylor College of Medicine’s International Pediatric AIDS Initiative, pioneered the concept of opening local clinics specializing in pediatric treatment for the disease. We’ve teamed with Baylor and Dr. Kline to open three of these clinics in Eastern Europe and Africa, as well as supporting the overall administration of the network of clinics.

Malawi is another of the countries hardest hit by the HIV/AIDS pandemic, with an estimated 83,000 of its children living with the disease. In November 2006, we underwrote the building of the country’s first pediatric outpatient clinic dedicated to the care and treatment of children living with HIV in Lilongwe.

Baylor’s clinics are providing care and treatment to more than 80,000 children, with support from Abbott and the Abbott Fund totaling more than $50 million in grants and products.
