One such approach: the Abbott Fund collaborated with the American Diabetes Association on a diabetes toolkit specifically designed for Latino populations. The toolkit provides community- and faith-based organizations with comprehensive, culturally relevant information on diabetes and healthy living. It offers simple, practical ideas for addressing the needs of Latinos in attaining healthier lives. Diabetes is increasing at an alarming rate in the United States, affecting nearly 24 million children and adults. It disproportionately affects Hispanics, who are nearly twice as likely to develop diabetes over the course of their lifetimes as non-Hispanic whites. Each toolkit contains educational materials, including bilingual brochures, recipe samplers, posters and healthy lifestyle tip sheets.
